Wet Day Slow Down with Humpty

Well after the burst of late hot weather we had last week, winter certainly let us know it is not far away today. It rained, then rained and then rained some more. At least the vegies will be happy. After a busy long weekend and a very late night watching Avatar last night,  a rainy day was the perfect excuse to do not much. That is after going to school with Sarah this morning and tracking down her uniform which she somehow managed to forget to bring home last week and then a quick trip to Bunnings to get some more silicone sealant to keep the rain out of the shed.
Home again and Mia and I sit through an episode of Play School where humpty was the main theme of all activities. While I cleaned Mia set about drawing and instead of her usual 2 1/2 year old scribble, she actually came up with a drawing that resembled what it was - Humpty lying down after he fell off the wall. I know I'm a biased mum but this one had to go on the wall with a black frame.
Below is the original picture and then one with the drawing described for those without 'mum' eyes.

Hectic Holiday

I thought a long weekend was a time to relax. Apparently not in this household. The day commenced with Mia making herself a bracelet. An extra achievement as she threaded all the beads herself. So happy was she that she then had to make one for mummy and I think it will become a favourite.

Then there was my finishing 'Little Ted' for Mia so cuddles and reading could commence.

Then it was off to Luna Park for an afternoon of rides.....
Riding the Flying Elephants, the Carousel ( Sarah's attempt at motion photography)  and then onto the big kid rides hence no photos.

and then when all ridden out home to the homemade vegie soup for dinner. Everyone got to choose at least one vegetable to go in the soup so that everyone would like it.

I love family days like this.

Lest We Forget

Today is Anzac Day and although I didn't make it to the dawn service - Sarah was the rep for our whole family - it is still a day to remember our heroes of yersteday and celebtrate our heroes of today.
On a totally lighter note I hope the Mighty Magpies smash the Bombers in the Anzac Day football blockbuster.

Feed the Birds

As the weather is starting to get cooler her my youngest daughter was worried about what the birds would eat. So today we set about making this simple bird feeder from an empyt soda water bottle and some old wooden spoons.'Fantastic Mummy' was her verdict and I must say I was pleased with the way only a small amount of seed is emptied onto the spoon at one time. Now to let the birds know! Mia is checking every 5 minutes to see if any birds are eating her seed. Tomorrow I think it will move out to hang from a tree until the birds learn it is around.

The Great Beginning

After a lot of procrastination and this blog is finally up and running.
Stay tuned for a glimpse into my world of family, crafting, sewing, cooking and all other things that make up a day.
